Some people are naturally morning people. I am not one of those people. In college, I stayed up late, woke up early, and lived on Red Bull. After college and working in food service and at evening library shifts for years, I was very much acclimated to staying up late and sleeping in late. But that all changed at the end of last year when my son was born. I suddenly had no choice but to get up at 5, 6am with him. And Red Bull just wasn’t as appealing as it used to be. I tried a number of things to make getting up so early a little easier. Some worked, some didn’t. I still have plenty of mornings where I stumble to the kitchen and try to put baby formula in the coffee maker.
Here are ten of the things that have worked for me. I don’t do all of them every single morning, but I try to squeeze in as many as possible. They’re all easy enough to adapt for dorm life as well.
